General Job Description: The Community Coordinator’s main focus is ensuring all residents are cared for: facilitating deep connections, planning all events and programming—facilitating resident-led programs and events, educational events, service events, and connecting with residents and caring for them on a one-on-one basis.
The Community Coordinator will spend time in the office and be available to meet and coordinate with the office staff regarding resident care. This care includes meetings on delinquency issues, resident disputes, or any other resident need.
The Community Coordinator is not a leasing agent, but if they are in the office they should be willing to answer questions and help direct traffic, and if everyone else is busy, even show a unit and then pass the prospect and information over to a leasing agent or manager.
The Community Coordinator should partner closely with the property manager and office staff when it comes to property policy, resident communication, and any/all activities that take place at the property in order to help ensure care is happening everywhere and all the time. This partnership could include doing research, giving input, and even helping to craft or produce relevant materials.
Specific Senior Component: At senior living properties, the Community Coordinator has a specific mandate to enrich and enliven the experience of our senior residents, providing dignity and opportunities to grow in connection and depth as our residents age. Opportunities for our residents to find value and ways to contribute to the community and society at large will be prioritized. Health and wellness are also a priority—exercise, healthy eating, walks, stretching, regular check-ups and unit check-ins, etc. This focus also includes mental wellness—educational classes, skills improvement opportunities, volunteering and labor contributions that are appropriately matched, community building, and connection to outside therapy resources as needed.
However, as senior residents will have health and other aging complications, the Coordinator will also work with residents and outside resources to help our residents get the care they need when they need it. There may be times when it makes the most sense to partner with the family and outside care to have a resident remain at the property for a longer time. There will also be times when a resident develops needs that are significant enough that a transition to a new living situation is best. Coordinators will work with families and resources available to help facilitate a dignified and graceful transition.
