Director of Traditional Worship
Position Summary
The Director of Traditional Worship develops, promotes, and leads the traditional worship music ministry of Carrollton First Methodist Church in alignment with biblical principles and the church’s mission. Working in consultation with the Senior Pastor and church staff, this role involves planning and leading traditional worship music, engaging the congregation, and fostering a vibrant music program that enhances traditional worship service(s).
Qualifications
- A personal, active faith in Christ and a servant’s heart for ministry.
- A bachelor's degree (or higher) in music, music performance, or equivalent experience.
- Must live within a 45 mile radius of Carrollton, Georgia.
- Proficiency in at least one musical instrument, such as piano or pipe organ.
- Strong organizational, leadership, and motivational skills for working with volunteer and paid musicians.
- Knowledge and experience with traditional hymns, choral arrangements, and classical sacred music.
- Sensitivity to the congregation’s worship goals and the impact of musical selections.
- Strong communication skills with individuals of all ages and musical backgrounds.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including budgeting and public relations.
Responsibilities
- Direct the Chancel Choir, recruiting and training new members.
- Plan, rehearse, and lead traditional music for worship services, coordinating with soloists, ensembles, and instrumentalists.
- Collaborate with the Senior Pastor and staff to prepare weekly worship orders, aligning music with sermons and liturgical themes.
- Organize special musical programs that engage both the church and the wider community.
- Approve and provide music for weddings, funerals, and other special services as needed.
- Supervise accompanists and serve as a liaison between the music ministry, Worship Committee, and Church Council.
- Develop and manage the annual music budget in coordination with the Finance Committee.
- Maintain the church’s music library, equipment, and instruments, ensuring proper care and upkeep.
- Select and purchase necessary music, instruments, and related materials within budget constraints.
- Pursue continuing education to enhance the church’s traditional music ministry.
- Provide reports on music ministry activities and plans to the Church Council as requested.
Accountability
The Director of Traditional Worship reports to the Senior Pastor.
Compensation & Benefits
- Position: Part-time, 15 hours per week, Sundays required
- Salary: $30,000–$34,000 per year (based on education and experience)
